Scholarship Applications:

 

 


 Duties of the Guidance Counselor and Assistant Guidance Counselor

1. Coordinate standardized testing
            PLAN sophomores (Assistant Guidance Counselor)
            PSAT juniors
            ACT juniors
 
2. Meet individually with students (and some joint homerooms)
            SENIORS – September meeting
               campus visits, applications, job shadow
            JUNIORS – December meeting
               ACT test, campus visits, job shadow
            SOPHOMORES – post PLAN test meeting (Assistant Guidance Counselor)
               explore career possibilities: talk to people, job shadow
 
3. Provide information/serve as resource person
            monthly Guidance FYI for parents and students
            distribute college and test materials as needed
            facilitate job shadow opportunities when possible
                                   
4. Remain informed
            read the volumes of mail that comes across my desk
            attend workshops and conferences
 
5. Serve as high school/college liaison
            publicize college recruitment visits here at Luther
schedule students to meet with MLC, Bethany and WLC admissions counselors
            work with office secretary to send out college applications
           
6.  Organize post-high school exploration opportunities
            juniors attend the Wisconsin Education Fair (WEF) in the fall
            Career Exploration Day (Assistant Guidance Counselor)
                        Freshmen field trip to UW-La Crosse and WTC
                       Presentation on job interviewing techniques
                        Time for juniors and seniors to job shadow/do campus visits
            Focus on the Ministry visit to MLC and BLC November of each year
 
7. Organize Awards Night
            Serve as liaison with private and community scholarship donors
            Coordinate scholarship selection with LHS faculty
            Plan for Awards Night – program, presenters, food, letters of invitation, etc.
 
8. Serve as liaison for special student awards
            Tribune Extra effort award
            YWCA young woman of tomorrow award
            Badger Boys and Girls State
            Principal’s Leadership Award
            WI All-State Scholar Award
            WI Academic Excellence Award 

Duties of Advisors

  • Every student is assigned an Advisor when they enroll
  • Advisees retain the same Advisor for their entire high school career
  • Meet twice a week in homerooms with their Advisees
  • Through both the Guidance Counselors and the Advisor each student has opportunities to prepare for their post high school life
  • Works out a course schedule that best prepares the Advisee for post high school plans  -  Drop/Add Form
  • Is a liaison between the parents and the instructors
  • Reviews academic progress on a regular schedule
